Hot Morning at the Dayton Art Institute

I won't repeat everything Nancy said on our Jafagirl website, but it was HOT. I've never yarnbombed something so fast in my life, faster than you can say,"don't get yer knicker's in a knot", which I did by the way.
knitting, crochet, applique and embroidery on craft felt
We did several installations outdoors, the Hero Tree, lights out front, and the Admiral of the Blue tree which is a nod to the Kehinde Wiley painting (which I love) on display in the Museum.
The Honorable Augustus Keppel Admiral of the Blue 2006
and who is the Honorable Augustus Keppel?
painted by Joshua Reynolds

"Kehinde Wiley describes his approach as "interrogating the notion of the master painter, at once critical and complicit." Wiley’s figurative paintings "quote historical sources and position young black men within that field of power.” In this manner, Wiley’s paintings fuse history and style in a unique and contemporary manner."

I suppose in our own way, we have done the same, and fused history, art and craft to make a statement that honors not just the fine arts, but a long history of craft and women's role in the current craft movement.
